Some journeys begin with one step. Mine began with a sewing machine. Thanks to my father's generous nature and my mother's loss of interest in fighting with a bobbin I aquired a sewing machine after seeing some adorable wristlets in a small shop and claiming "I can make that!"
I have to say it is a rather phenomenal machine, a Husqvarna Viking 980.
